Nolan Sorrento's avatar's eye color will change according to his state of mind. His eyes glow blue in his normal state, but in the state extreme emotions such as frustration, agitation, and anger, they will turn to yellow and eventually red.

During the scene showing the real life effects of the Catalyst being set off the scoreboard briefly shows Parzival in 1st and Sho in 2nd as they are the only 2 members of the "High Five" still alive at that time in game.

When 'Z' uses the Zemeckis Cube the back to the future theme music plays

IOI, the antagonist group, is an homage to the binary system which is fundamental to computers and technology. In addition, "101" in binary translates to 6, a reference to the "sixers" that are in the movie.

The IOI is the same font as 101 in the Ketchapp game Rider

Two quarters can bee seen on Halliday's eyes during the funeral scene. One quarter shows the year of Halliday's birth, the second- slightly out of focus- alludes to the "extra life" Halliday led in the Oasis after his physical death.
