Aladdin Movie Facts, Easter Eggs and hidden details

Robin Williams plays both the Genie and the Peddler, who sings "Arabian Nights" in the beginning of the film. In Aladdin (2019), Will Smith plays the Genie, and the Mariner, who fills basically the same role. In a scrapped concept for the original, they were even the same person.

The Genie sings "I'm here to answer all your midday prayers." In Islam there are five daily prayers, including the Zuhr or Dhuhr prayer, which takes place when the sun just passes its zenith. When Aladdin makes his first wish, the shadows are directly below, indicating that it is midday

In Genies cave you can clearly see a Lamassu statue. Agrabah is supposedly located on ancient Sumerian territory. Maybe Genies last master was an Anunnaki giant.

When Aladdin puts Jafar back into the lamp, the spell on the other characters is broken. Rajah the tiger jumps into the Sultan's arms. When Rajah hits his arms and starts to grow back into a tiger, just before he becomes normal, his face appears as Mickey Mouse for one frame.

Genie wears a Hawaiian shirt and Goofy hat near the end of the film as a tribute to Robin Willams' outfit in the 1989 short "Back To Neverland" that was filmed for Disney's MGM Studios.

In the scene where the Sultan is stacking his animal figures, the camera scrolls up, you can see the Beast from Beauty and the Beast as one of the creatures on the left-hand side of his "pyramid".

When the Genie is explaining to Aladdin how it works, we can see the drawings from the original animated movie.

When Genie is explaining the process of wishes, he uses a diagram that references the 1992 film's cartoon version of the characters.

Jafar steals the Sultan's ring to find the"diamond in the rough" for his own greed. The lie he gives is to find a suitable husband for Jasmine. He finds Aladdin

When the Genie and Aladdin are talking about Princess Jasmine, the magic carpet can bee seen making a sand castle that resembles Disney's classic castle.

During the song Friend Like Me, Genie says "Let me take your order sir" and writes the order in Arabic

When the genie is granting Aladdin's wish to make him a prince, he pulls Sebastian from The Little Mermaid out of his cookbook.

When showing Jasmine where Ababwa is on the map, you can see Adventureland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland

When Aladdin is looking for "Ababwa" in the maps, Genie paints the Magic Kingdom in the process, with a few of its landmarks painted in and some labeled areas like Tomorrow Land.

Genie is NOT the only character with 4 fingers, despite what the recent post said.

The Genie sings "Well, Ali Baba had them forty thieves, Scheherazade had a thousand tales." Scheherazade actually had One thousand and one Arabian tales, but one of them was the tale of Aladdin.

Once the Genie is free, he tells Al to wish for the Nile. This can be seen as rejecting the wish because he is free, but it can also be interpreted as wishing for 'denial' instead.

The merchant at the beginning and the Genie only have four fingers, everyone else in the film has five. This confirmed the theory that the Genie was the merchant.

I just noticed that carpet created the Disney castle with sand, complete with the arc.

When Jasmine unknowingly steals an apple from a vendor, he slams her hand down onto a counter with marks that indicate he has cut off many hands for stealing fruit before

The Magic Carpet can be seen recreating Cinderella's Castle from the opening logo, complete with the "Sparkle Trail"

- he throws an apple at Jasmine when they were flying though Greece. In Ancient Greece throwing an apple was considered a marriage proposal. Catching is was accepting the proposal.

During the Prince Ali introduction scene, Genie sings for everyone to "brush up your Friday salaam" because that is the Muslim Holy Day. This is a change from the original (1992) film, where it is "Sunday salaam".

A Lamassu from Ancient Mesopotamia can be seen in the Cave of Wonders, maybe Genie's a lot bigger last master was an Anunnaki. If you find that hard to believe, check where city of Agrabah is supposedly located (spoiler: territory of Ancient Mesopotamia)

The Magic Carpet has the Cave of Wonders stitched on each of its corners. The Cave of Wonders is where the Magic Carpet was first found in the film.

Genie writes '???????' on his pad- the Persian word for 'turkey'- just before serving Aladdin some turkey.

When the genie pushes the end card out of frame, you can see the bottom is punched with holes used specifically to align frames in traditional animation (further explanation in comments)

This is the moment Jasmine realizes that Prince Ali is the street kid from earlier. I never noticed it before.

The Genie makes a finger-shadow camel as he turns Abu into different animals/vehicles

Will Smith very briefly does the Carlton dance

During Aladdin & Abu's attempt to escape from the collapsing Cave of Wonders, the lava/flames momentarily form giant hands trying to snatch/smash them.

During 'Prince Ali', the genie portrays Harry and June. Two fictional hosts of the Macy's thanks giving day parade, if you look closely they both have condensation on their breath from the cold weather around the time of year the parade is held.

During the Prince Ali song Genie turns into two reporters. They are dressed for cold weather and you can see their breath when they speak. This is a reference to The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Song "Friend like me" Genie specifies to have 'all of column B' which is made of healthy fruits and only 'some of column A', made of meats and cheeses

The genie uses a scroll to describe the hierarchy which is oddly similar to a scene in another Will Smith movie, Shark Tale.

The magic carpet that was found in the cave of wonders has the face of the entrance animal on the corners.

Even after Genie's freedom he still gives just what was wished for

The Genie announces Prince Ali to the crowd and instructs them to 'brush up your sunday salaam'. In the remake (2019) this lyric has been changed to 'brush up your friday salaam' acknowledging that an arabic weekend was traditionally (and in some cases still is) thurs-friday.

During the Prince Ali song the Genie impersonates commentators from a winter parade and you can see the breath coming out of Genie's mouth since he is pretending to be in the cold.

During the song "friend like me" when the genie does an impression of a french waiter, the note he writes says 'turkey' and 'pilaf' the latter refferncing a rice dish, both in the persian language.

The Genie has illustrations when explaining the "levels of power" each of the characters have. This is a subtle nod to the original in which the characters are drawn that way.

Directed by Guy Ritchie, the Genie suggests Periwinkle as a colour to try while dressing Aladdin. This is a reference to Snatch (2000), also directed by Guy Ritchie, in which Brad Pitt says his ma is "terrible partial to periwinkle blue".
