Costume details in Rogue One
Director Gareth Edwards told the main characters and extras to grow moustaches and sideburns to give the film a 1970's feel, and add a retro-futuristic aesthetic like the original trilogy did.
The production team used a London subway station as a stage prop for the Empire base.
Rogue One movie hidden details
Vader's Castle and the Temple of the Kyber (on Jedha) were designed to mirror each other, and designed after a tuning fork, as both were meant to be places where the Dark and Light side of the Force were focused.
Admiral Raddus orders the ship, "Lightmaker" to ram a Star Destroyer, destroying it. In "The Last Jedi " (2017), a ship of his namesake , the "Raddus" is used to ram and destroy the First Order's Flagship, "Supremacy".
Darth Vader actually answered Krennic's question by calling him "Director" after he choked him
The insignia for Galen Erso's Eadu science team (who built the exploitable flaw into the Death Star) is similar to the Rebel Alliance's animation of the Death Star exploding in A New Hope (1977).
"The Ghost" from the animated series Star Wars Rebels is visible fighting in the battle of Scarif
As Director Krennic looks up and sees the Death Star in the sky above him, you can see the reflection of the green laser in his eye just moments before he is killed by it.
Darth Vader has red eyes and has his sash over his shoulder piece, just like in A New Hope.
The planet Wobani is the anagram of Obiwan
Jyn's Mother has fixed some "Blue Milk" to drink, same as Aunt Beru drunks in 'A New Hope'
After Orson Krennic recruits Galen Erso by force, we can see from his insignia that he was promoted from Deputy Director to Director. Likely based on the success of Erso's work.
The tank/transporter that Jyn breaks out of at the start of the film is the same vehicle that is used by the Clone Army at The Battle of Kashyyyk in Revenge of The Sith. It is also one of the only wheeled vehicles in the whole Star Wars Saga.
Right before the Death Star blows up the base on Scariff, we see the kyber beams reflect in Krennics eyes.
Having Chirrut be the first to notice the AT-ATs (or AT-ACTs) was a great touch that added realism.
When looking for Death Star plans in the stacks, Jyn notices plans for Hyperspace tracking
Chirrut says, "The strongest stars have hearts of kyber". At the time he did not know that the super-weapon that would be powered with kyber crystal would be called the Death Star.
Right after Jyn comes out of the council, you can hear a PA calling General Sydulla, from the Rebels TV series to the briefing room.
- Star Wars creative executive Pablo Hidalgo explains that the crew of the Hammerhead Corvette are shown to have survived the crash as the escape pod bays are empty
Bodhi is visibly scared hearing Saw Gerrera breathe. (Probably because it reminds him of Darth Vader)
While Chirriut is fighting the stormtroopers, you can see some of the partisans watching behind the crashed x wing
After the bombing on Eadu, you can hear a deathtrooper unscramble his voice to tell Krennic to evacuate.
The first time the crew leaves rebel base the trooper tracks them. The final time they leave, he doesn't...Why?
The stolen shuttle's designation is SW0608, referencing Episodes VI and VIII, the episodes before and after the last episode released (Episode VII)
Chirrut Imwe flicks sand into the eye of a storm-trooper. The storm trooper is wearing a mask. This is a subtle nod to the fact that storm-troopers are the dumbest characters in movie history. Seriously though, they're really dumb.
[DETAIL] In Rogue One (2016) when Jyn is searching through prototype plans, she finds the Hyperspace Tracking technology used in The Last Jedi (2017)
Rogue One's K2SO and Serenity/Firefly's Wash share this detail in common, and it's not just Alan Tudyk.
One of the rebels attacking Scarif has death sticks stuck in his helmet
K2SO has multiple lines about the odds of something, pushing the other characters to use Han Solo's famous, "Never Tell Me The Odds," line, hinting at the second Star Wars Story movie about Han Solo
Krennic meets his end at the hands (superlasers?) of his own creation, which his own fumbling of resulted in him being where he was at the time. Personally I loved almost everything about this film, very much including Krennic's arc and character
