The Thing Movie Trivia
The title effects sequence was made using an animation cell with "The Thing" written on it placed behind a smoke filled fish tank which was then covered with a plastic garbage bag. The burning effect was created once the bag ingited.
When the creature "roars", it is rumored that John Carpenter himself said that it is emitting the screams every of every creature it has consumed thus far
For the scene where Dr. Copper gets his arms bitten off, two shots that each lasted only a few seconds, had an actual amputee standing in Richard Dysart's place wearing a mask in his likeness
Before the dog goes into the dorm room you see a shadow on the wall. This was supposed to be Palmer, but since David Clennon's silhouette was too distinct, stunt coordinator Dick Warlock was used instead.
The Thing (1982), when Copper's arms are torn off by Norris-Thing, Richard Dysart was replaced by an amputee lookalike missing both of his arms. They then attached fake arms made with Jello, wax bones and rubber arteries for the astounding effect.

The Thing movie hidden details
Kurt Russell hands a whiskey bottle to Childs which he drinks from. Earlier in the film Russell filled them with gas to burn down the camp. The Thing wouldn't know the difference and the musical cue hints at this.
Childs' breath isn't visible. MacReady's breath is clearly visible with the same lighting.
When MacReady tests the blood samples to see who is human, everybody except for one is focused on their results.
MacReady calls the chess computer a cheater and pours liquor on it. This is supposed to show what kind of person he is, but due to an editing mistake, the computer did actually make an impossible move

this scene of the film, Blair is fully assimilated as the Thing. When before he was heavily distraught about the situation, in this scene he says he's "a lot better now." The noose shows that either he was about to kill himself and the Thing killed him or succeeded hanging.

Palmer-Thing (a few mins before it was discovered) was actually pretending to be breathing as the rise of its chest looks to be exaggerated due to the fact that the thing hasn't learnt how to normally breathe like a human yet
When Ted is in jail in South Carolina and being spooned by his cellmate, "Go Gamecocks" is written on the wall behind him.
Buggin Out gets run into on his back/left side by the "I own this brownstone" guy, but it's the toe of his right shoe that's scuffed up. Is this a continuity error, or is it an intentional decision on Spike Lee's part?
