Titanic Movie Facts, Easter Eggs and hidden details

James Cameron had the duplicate titanic built on the starboard side due to wind conditions, this was a problem because the ship leaves from its port side in Southampton. They decided to flip it. So all directions, words, props, were made the opposite way so it could be flipped.

The well dressed gentleman who decides to go down with the ship is Benjamin Guggenheim, an American businessman who refused a lifeboat in order to spare women and children. Alongside him is his valet, Giglio, who he chose to perish with.

When the ship goes in reverse, the central propeller doesn't. This is because the original titanic's central propeller was not reversible.

The Master at Arms that arrests Jack (played by Ron Donachie) is next to them when the ship breaks in half.

The team had to rearrange the set so it could be flipped (because only one side of the Titanic was built to film). The only thing they forgot to do was tell the extras not to use their dominant hand, which is why a lot of extras on the shore are waving with their left hand.

Victor Garber, realizing that the ship he has designed is lost, muses over how much time they have left in the ship's grand state room. This is a homage to a similar scene in A Night to Remember, also about the sinking of the Titanic.

When Jack and Rose are in the car making love, Rose's had forms a heart when pressed against the steamy glass of the car window

Jack tellsRose that he went ice fishing on Lake Wissota in Wisconsin. The lake Wissota was formed in 1917 by the creation of a hydroelectric dam on the Chippewa River, 5 full years after the Titanic sank.

Towards the end of the movie you can see a Grandfather clock telling the time 2:20, which is the same time the Titanic began to sink in real life

If you look closely on the breakup scene you can see the a deck promenade's pillars bending just before the ship splits

Rose is shocked when Jack suggests she ride a horse "like a man" ie with one leg with side, not side-saddle. At the end of the film, one of Old Rose's photos shows her riding one leg either side.

As the ship sinks this woman is heard telling her children about "T?r na n?g, the land of eternal youth and beauty". In Irish mythology, T?r na n?g can be reached by going under water or across the sea.

Jack passes by two men watching a boy play on deck. This is actually a recreation of a real photograph...even including the coat he steals!

Rose's bedside photos are everything she was going to do with Jack. She ice fishes, learns to fly a plane, alluding to the "Come Josephine My Flying Machine" song, rides a horse like a man, and rides roller coasters until she throws up. There's a roller coaster in the background w/horse.

Jack and Fabrizio win a pocket knife in the beginning of the film while playing cards. Fabrizio later uses the knife to cut the ropes of the life boats.

The scene where the ship ran into the iceberg lasted 37 seconds, exactly how long the ship made contact with real iceberg that sank it.

Fabrizio wins a pen knife that is thrown in with the money and tickets during the poker game. Later he uses the same knife to cut the lifeboat suspension ropes as the ship sinks.

The character who drinks from a flask next to Rose & Jack was Charles Joughin. He was the last passenger to "leave" the Titanic (as shown standing up as the ship submerged). He survived after several hours in the water thanks to the alcohol.

The one legged prostitute Jack tells Rose about is visible for two frames, as he is turning to his sketch of Madame Bijoux.

Jack would have won the poker hand whether he had drawn a card, or not. He already had either three of a kind, or two pair that was greater than Sven's.

The first class passengers are singing the hymn Eternal Father while in church -- a hymn about sailors suffering while at sea. The line the audience hears as the scene cuts is "Oh hear us when we cry to Thee, for those in peril on the sea."

Roses hair and dresses are rather formal and restrictive. Her very first dress even resebles the clothes of a prisoner due to the black and white stripes. The more she falls in love with Jack, the more loose and free her hair and dresses become.

Chief Engineer Joseph Bell was shown warming soup over one of the pipes as the order comes in to set the engine full astern. On the real Titanic, engineers would sometimes warm soup or other food on the pipes and boilers.

As Rose and Jack reunite the clock in the background marks the time the Titanic sank on April 15th 1912.

The date in which the movie is set is April 14th, 1912. Coincidentally, on the same date a ship named the RMS Titanic also sunk

When Jack goes to first class and meets rose downstairs. As he reaches her hand you can see the statue aligning like he's being touched by an angel

The men playing poker with Jack and losing the tickets are called Swen and Olaf. Years later those names were used in Frozen (2013) on the cutest characters.
