Hiccup almost died when he fell into the fire caused by the Red Death's exploding body. Parallels, in How to Train Your Dragon 2, Hiccup almost died when Drago's Bewilderbeast shot him with an icy blast, a completely opposite way. Both times Toothless protected him.

When the Dreamworks logo appears on screen with the boy sitting in the crescent moon at the beginning of 'How To Train Your Dragon' (2010), a Night Fury can briefly be see flying through the night sky in the lower right of the screen.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character writes that the Tooth Fairy will "go down in flames." Shortly after, he was kidnapped, glued to a wheelchair, set on fire, and rolled down the street by the Tooth Fairy. He went down in flames.
